How to use washi tape for Bible journaling!

One of the questions we get asked a lot is... how do we use washi tape? So we’re looking at something different in this blog and seeing how we can use washi tape for Bible journaling!

Washi tape is one of those things that looks like a lot of fun, but can also seem confusing. Since we love journaling and using washi tape a lot (shoutout to everseeking subscribers who get washi tape every month!), we wanted to share ways we use the different kinds of washi tape! Although there are several different things you can do with them, but here are just a few examples…

1 - Highlighting

Sometimes it’s just as simple as highlighting something that you want to remember. Think of it like a small sticky note!

For example, in this notes’ section, there is a prayer written in, realizing there are several terrible powers of evil work — but through it all, the part we want to remember is that God is greater. So that’s what’s highlighted here!

In this journal, it’s a simple but powerful note about Jesus. And the part we want to remember is that he is fully God!

2 - Creating tabs

Washi tape can easily help us keep track of certain things. This is where the patterned washi tape can come in handy!

For example, once this page of the journal was complete, washi tape was placed on the top. As each day gets another washi tab, it makes it easier to find the next day to complete!

Another way to create tabs is along the side and only for select pages!

In a journal, there can be an introduction or summary page that you’d like to easily flip back to when you’re studying. This makes it easy to find — along with some pretty pattern, of course!

3 - Decorating

Yes, it can be just as simple as wanting to decorate!

Most of our journals are made creatively but also to be used creatively. Here, one of our everseeking subscribers just placed a bit of washi tape at the bottom of the page to bring some more design to it. For everseeking, we always try to match the patterned washi tape to the design of the journal. It makes it fun to make everything match and bring the pattern and color to the inside of the journal as well as the outside!

Here’s another cute way to decorate with washi tape. Just simply putting it in a corner and then drawing around it gives the journal more of a personal and scrapbook feel.

There’s no right or wrong way to do it — just make it yours and enjoy the beauty our eyes behold while delighting in the true beauty of God’s Word that our heart beholds!

4 - Adding extra notes (scrapbooking)

Another use of washi tape is what it sounds like — tape!

Washi tape is specifically designed for journaling so that the adhesive “sticky part” doesn’t usually stick permanently. You can move the tape around a page or readjust how you would like. But it makes it a great way to tape a little note to the inside of your journal (again, just like scrapbooking!).

It can be a different texture or different colored paper you’d like to add or a note already on another piece of paper that fits perfectly with what you’re studying in the journal. Just enjoy adding layers to your journal!

5 - Color coding

And last but not least, you can use washi tape to color code!

For example, this journal we saw earlier is our Ephesians journal that has blue, pink, and purple hues.

… while this, as our Luke journal, has a green color scheme.

It’s simple, but it can make concepts be more streamlined and cohesive in our minds! So when thinking about a certain theme or idea in the Bible — especially for those of us who are more visual — remembering the thought highlighted in green might make us think to look back in Luke!

When it comes to God’s Word, anything is worth helping us remember what He is telling us!

And like mentioned earlier, our everseeking journals come with matching washi tapes! Every package has the two kinds: one that is patterned and one that is solid color.

We love giving color-coded and coordinating washi tape to make your monthly package more complete!

So those are just a few ways that you can use washi tape!

Whether it’s highlighting a thought, creating tabs to reference back to, decorating your page, adding other notes like scrapbooking or just color coding, enjoy using these washi tape to enrich each one of your studies!

Because at the end of the day, it’s all about what we can do to help us spend deep and meaningful time with God. It’s worth whatever we can do to “take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm” (Ephesians 6:13).
