He restores my soul

Psalm 23:3 “ He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”

Our souls are incomplete without God. We were painstakingly fashioned by him, bearing his image and his own workmanship. He didn’t create us with the intention to leave him. We are meant to be sustained by the everlasting God.

As we know, from the Bible and our own personal history, he also gave us choice — and every single one of us chose something else. At one point or another in our lives, that choice led to us climbing out of the safety of his arms and blindly following what looked better, not knowing it led to death.

But God didn’t give us up. He knew that we would wander desperately looking for peace. And he came in person to earth to give it to us. He restores our souls. He builds us back up again after the world has worn us down. He gives us hope where none seemed to exist before.

And he doesn’t leave us there. He then leads us in his paths, paths of righteousness. We’re not restored then sent back into the world without guidance. He is constantly present and leading us in the good life — a life that glorifies his name, not ours. He is the Creator; we are his masterpieces.
